I’m funny about Thanksgiving. I have a hard time celebrating it without my kids. If they’re going to be with their dad- I would rather pass on the whole thing- but somehow that is a lot to ask of your friends & family. As soon as I took a non-committal tone… the offers started to roll in. I tried to express a great deal of gratitude, while politely declining.
Then Mrs. Wehrle asked me to come to her house. She’s the librarian at my children’s elementary school. My son adored her- and still says she’s the best librarian so far. My daughter loves her- and always says she knows the book you’ll like to read- and “if Mrs. Wehrle says it’s good- you can bet it is”. I adore her… and she’s just one of those people that you don’t come across very often in your lifetime. Someone who really cares- who really works at the school because she loves kids, and in the library because she really wants to provide them with any & every book she can think of to make them develop a love of reading. Beyond that, she’s like a second mother to me… and even asks about our pets.
She’s quite-a-bit priceless
I ran into her at Safeway on Wednesday and she invited me to Thanksgiving dinner. I’d backed out of every offer… and suddenly.. I really wanted to go. I really wanted to make something delicious to take and accept her invitation.
<gasp>
Sometimes the healthiest family relationships are distant ones, in my opinion…
I had one of the best Thanksgiving dinners ever. It was fun and happy- with dogs & cats & the best gravy on earth. I may have to hit the gym 7 days this week- but it was worth every calorie.
