The one who started it all…
I’ve grown up loving old things and have never been the girl who wants to go to the furniture store for new items.. My silverware and chairs are mismatched, to my utter delight.
For the past few years, I was the Vice President of Copper River Fleece, a garment company based in Cordova Alaska. Covid-19 impacted the company significantly with the loss of cruise ship traffic to Alaska and my position was cut. I decided to leap like I’ve always dreamt of doing, and escape the small town I’d been stuck in forever.
Landing in endless sunshine and a sea of strangers, I was lost. My bio family back home imploded and I felt alone and rudderless for the first time in my life. I searched Facebook marketplace late one night and found a beautiful flower patterned quilt for $40. I asked to buy it and she invited me to pick it up the next day. When I got there the next morning, it was neatly folded and in a garbage bag. I was speechless when I saw it. Tiny hexagons of crisp florals and vintage prints. I fell in love at first sight and she surprised me and gave it to me. Her Grandmother had made a bunch of quilts and it was the last one, the one that nobody wanted… and she felt wrong selling it, but overjoyed at how much I loved it.
I cried… and fell in love HARD.
Since that day, I have searched for, cleaned and repaired a beautiful collection of quilts to share with all of you. I am so fortunate in being able to meet many of the wonderful people who’ve made them, and share the stories of how little bits of fabric can build a family out of strangers. I’ve built a brand new family out of the quilts that have found their way to me and look forward to sharing them with you.
Thank you for supporting my dream.
